Occasionally the name arrives first and then insists on things. Guy Dynamo wanted a certain kind of jaw and would not be talked out of it.
Starting from a name rather than a shape sounds like a gimmick and mostly is, but it does close down options fast, and closing down options is most of what design actually is.
