Sculpture · 03 / Rahul

Rahul

The third time this character has been built from scratch.

All sculpture

Rahul already exists as a hand built puppet and as a boxed figure. Sculpting him again meant deciding, once more, which version of him is the real one.

Building a character three times

Every medium argues for different proportions. The puppet needed a head you could get a hand into, the toy needed a silhouette that survives injection moulding, and this one only has to look right, which turns out to be its own kind of constraint.

The ribbons

They do most of the work. A static figure with something trailing off it reads as movement, and they let the piece fill space it does not actually occupy.
